Plantain (Plantago sp.) is a large genus of plants with over 200 different species. Two of these species are commonly used medicinally: Plantago major and Plantago lanceolata.
Though considered a weed, plantain leaf has a variety of medicinal properties. One of the popular uses for plantain is for skin issues. Plantain also contains a substance called allantoin that is highly beneficial for soothing skin and promoting new cell growth. This, along with its anti-inflammatory properties, makes a poultice or infusion of the leaves good for calming sunburn, acne, and other types of skin inflammation.
Plantain leaf is immune boosting due its high content of antioxidants. It can remove toxins out of the blood and a great lymphatic cleanse. It's also great for the respiratory system as well by soothing the throat and lungs from chronic coughs.
